Set Point Theory

Set point theory: This refers to the concept that the body raises or lowers it’s metabolism in an attempt to stay within its genetically pre-determined weight range. Also, the body increases or decreases hunger signals in attempt to stay within its set point range. However, this does not mean people have no control over what their weight. Physical exercise, proper sleep, and healthy eating habits all lower a person’s set point. Alternatively, unhealthy habits such as dieting, lack of exercise, and poor sleep tend to raise a person’s set point weight.
