Anorexia

Anorexia: Treatment for anorexia is available in Center City, Philadelphia at The Center for Growth, Inc. Young affluent Caucasian women have the highest rates of anorexia. However the frequency of men and women of color, suffering from this disease has increased dramatically. Anorexia is a disease that can impact anyone.

The rise in eating disorders in part may be attributed to societal pressures. Media (magazines, billboards, television, movies) all portray thin, beautiful, fit people. Frequently the imagines portrayed are unobtainable by the average person.

Anorexia is characterized by a low body weight. Those suffering from anorexia nervosa may exhibit external signs of weight loss, thinning hair, and the development of fine hair on the arms and face, among other symptoms. Internally, the individual may feel depressed, and feel a lack of control in their life.

Anorexia, left untreated can kill. We strongly encourage you to seek treatment. Help is available.
